I intended this post to be called Three of the Best, and I was going to pick, er, three of the best new homewares from the main high-street outlets - online and in-store - but I’ll be honest, I couldn’t always find three things I’d want in my house, so I certainly wasn’t going to recommend them for yours.

So where I feel it’s merited I have picked three items, but if something’s not here, it’s because I’ve looked and discounted it. Habitat feels a bit predictable and boring this season. M&S: are we really still doing faux fur cushions? I got to page 6 of 22 new products and gave up. Oliver Bonas: that blue coffee table is great, but it’s tiny - and are you having a laugh with that price? And why is everyone selling so much bedding? There can’t be that many actual beds in the world.

Right, rant over. What have we got? This is the time of year when just a little hint of something new can make all the difference to a room, a mood or even just a corner. Whether it’s a vase for autumn dahlias or a fun, striped shower curtain, here are some design treats for you.
