by Josh Silver is a funny as fuck portrayal of a washed up author who follows a gay man’s life of homelessness and addiction to write her next bestseller.
We not only read
Fruit Fly
, but got to see Josh Silver at an author talk here in Pōneke, New Zealand!! Josh is SO funny and SO smart, and it made the experience of reading this book way more rich. We learnt why and how he wrote
Fruit Fly
(he finished it in just 9 weeks while working full time as a mental health nurse btw) and the massive conversation he opened up, about who gets to tell whose story when it comes to fiction, specifically when marginal groups are involved.
